NZ World Cup squad: Neesham, Young in; Allen, Jamieson and Milne out
The 15-man New Zealand team for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India selected William Young over Finn Allen. Kyle Jamieson, a pacer, and Adam Milne, who was unable to play in the ODI series against England, are also missing. Both Trent Boult and James Neesham, who are unattached with a central contract, have been selected.
Along with all-rounders Daryl Mitchell and Neesham, the speed department includes Boult, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, and Matt Henry. The team’s two particular spinners are Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner. The inclusion of Neesham in the squad was made possible by the reality that spin-bowling all-rounder Michael Bracewell was unable to be chosen due to a right heel injury that has disabled him for six to seven months.
Gary Stead, the head coach, was identified as saying, “We felt that Youngy was the right guy to go with.” “We were just thinking that we analyzed the most likely gameplan in India, looked at the surroundings, and also examined the forms of the two players.
Although there is still no set date for Kane Williamson’s comeback from his knee injury, he will serve as the team’s captain. Until Williamson is available, the team will be managed by Tom Latham, the vice-captain. Williamson and Southee will be making their fourth World Cup participation. Rachin Ravindra and Young were chosen for their first-ever senior World Cup squads, while Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, and Glenn Phillips made their ODI World Cup appearances.
“I would like to congratulate the 15 players chosen today. Naming a tournament team is always an enjoyable experience. Being chosen to represent your nation at a World Cup is a respect, Stead said. “It’s always a very exciting time, from Kane and Tim going to their fourth tournament to the guys selected for the first time.”
“There have been some difficult decisions, and there will be some unhappy players, as with any side selected for an ICC tournament.
Finding the correct squad balance and making sure we were prepared for what was going to be a highly competitive event were important for us. Any replacements made after September 28 must have ICC permission. All teams have till September 28 to decide on their 15-player squads.
